All the best to you and the chickens Paul; not an easy road ahead but many people down the road will thank you for taking on this battle for food integrity on behalf of all of us. Thank you

Best of luck on this one, Paul. There is a similar (although not quite as intense) debate going on where I live (Squamish, BC). People want chickens, town council doesn't. Their latest arguement is that they are concerned about attracting bears. There are quite a few people around here that choose to risk the fine & keep the chickens, and it doesn't seem like council cares to do too much about it. I know there's a lot of people out here watching with anticipation as you battle, though! Best of luck!!
ReplyDeleteI dont understand why its so plainly legal in some cities and so plainly illegal in others? Simply put are the other towns using a different set of information or logic? It seems to me that people should be allowed to raise chickens. I mean if chicken smell was truly an issue then the whole community of ramsay/inglewood could get rid of the lilydale plant.. it smells like baked chicken shit 24/7 .
ReplyDeleteAnd we're an agriculturally rooted city, why are we turning our backs on our heritage?
That all being said, good luck paul. Its truly an unfair fight w/ the city having a legal team you being basically alone.

Hey Paul, we'll be following you closely in Windsor, maybe we should have a National Cluck Conference, LMK if you want to organize it with me!
ReplyDeleteI'm crossing my fingers and toes for you Paul! I'm holding my breath unti every Canadian city and town legalises urban chickens! And I will keep blogging about the issue until it happens.
ReplyDeleteHi Paul. We are going thru the same thing in quinte west, Murray ward in frankford Ontario. We have 4 backyard hens and received a letter the other day saying we must get rid of them by dec 17 or face legal action! We live in farm country on 1.5 acres of land. Everyone in this rural neighborhood is on 1.5 acres with farms surrounding us! our neighborhood is zoned special residential whatever that means. Please visit my Facebook page "quinte west let me keep my chickens" and also sign my online petition. We are at a loss as to what to do next!
